Starter Pokemon

Professor Cypress’s Pokemon Lab in Mitis Town is where Project Bronze Forever actually begins. After you wake in the red house, fill in the Trainer Card, meet Jake, and talk to your parents at the dig site, the lab opens and Cypress offers every core-series starter. There is no hidden fourth species on the table: you choose one of 27, then Jake walks up with Eevee. This page is the pick list and the early-route implications. The hour-by-hour story sits on Getting Started. Ranked opinions sit on the starter tier list. Type matchups against gyms use the type chart.

Play the live copy from the official play page. A re-upload does not wipe a normal save; still confirm the place on game status if the lab looks empty.

The 27 lab starters

Cypress stocks nine Grass, nine Fire, and nine Water Pokemon, one trio per generation from Kanto through Paldea. All of them are valid first partners. None of them appear as the Route 1 gift; if you want a second starter you pay for it (see VIP below) or you trade later.

Grass: Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Treecko, Turtwig, Snivy, Chespin, Rowlet, Grookey, Sprigatito.

Fire: Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig, Fennekin, Litten, Scorbunny, Fuecoco.

Water: Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, Oshawott, Froakie, Popplio, Sobble, Quaxly.

That is the complete lab list. Dual types (Bulbasaur is Grass/Poison, Rowlet is Grass/Flying, and so on) still count as their generation’s Grass, Fire, or Water slot on the table. Dual typing matters more once you reach Silvent and Brimber than it does against Jake.

Jake always uses Eevee

Your rival does not pick the opposite type. After you confirm a starter, Jake battles with Eevee. Normal-type hits do not care whether you chose Fuecoco or Snivy, so do not reset the lab just to “counter” him. Win, take the Bronze Brick necklace from your parents, and take five Poke Balls from Jake. Those balls are for Route 1, not for a second lab pick.

If you later want an Eevee of your own, that is a different article: Eeveelutions. Do not expect Cypress to hand you one in Mitis.

Extra starter: Natural Prism VIP

If you own the Natural Prism VIP game pass, talk to the lab assistant after your first pick. Extra starters cost 25 Pokemon Dollars each. That is an optional second type, not a replacement for the story starter. A common use is covering Route 1 Bugs (Fire) while keeping a Grass starter for Silvent’s Electric gym, or the reverse. You do not need VIP to finish the league.

What the first hour actually asks of a starter

Route 1 is Bug Catcher Ralph, Camper Jack, and Picnicker Susie, plus wilds you should catch. Fire is comfortable against Bugs; Grass and Water still win with potions and a second catch. After the route, Team Eclipse kidnaps your parents, Linda steals the Bronze Brick in Cheshma Town, and you fight her Poochyena and Pancham in Gale Forest. Dark and Fighting are not reasons to restart the lab — catch answers on the route or buy balls at 200 from the Mitis mart.

Gym 1 is Chad in Silvent: Electric, Arc Badge, dance-pad puzzle, TM57 Charge Beam. Grass resists Electric; Ground coverage later punches holes in Electric teams; Water is the awkward long-term pick into that gym but is not a dead run. The full badge list is on the gym walkthrough and gym leaders. Gym 2 is Fire (Brimber / Sebastian), gym 3 is Water (Rosecove / Quentin), so the classic triangle shows up — just not in the first ten minutes.

Practical picking rules

Pick a species you are willing to look at for eight gyms. Then spend the five balls. A caught Route 1 Pokemon will do more for Linda and Chad than a perfect theoretical starter that never got a teammate. Heal at the green NPC in Mitis because there is no Centre yet. Learn movement and saving on controls so you do not lose the lab battle to a misclick. After the Arc Badge, redeem working codes with how to redeem; some rewards are extra balls or healing, which helps every starter equally.

Do not save-scum the lab for a legendary. Legendaries are later, one-chance hunts: legendary birds, the Regi trio, then Volcanion, Rotom, and Victini. Your lab pick does not lock those encounters. It only decides which STAB you carry into Ralph, Jack, Susie, Linda, and Chad. If you already know you want a specific final evolution, take that species. If you do not, take Fire for Route 1 comfort or Grass for Silvent comfort and move on.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers trainers actually search for.

How many starters can I choose in the Mitis Town lab?

Professor Cypress offers 27 species: nine Grass, nine Fire, and nine Water, one trio from each core-series generation. The full names are listed above.

How do I get a second starter?

Own the Natural Prism VIP game pass, then talk to the lab assistant. Extra starters cost 25 Pokemon Dollars each.

Does Jake pick the type that beats mine?

No. Jake always uses Eevee after you confirm. See Eeveelutions if you want an Eevee line on your side later.

Which starter type helps with gym 1?

Silvent is Electric. Grass resists that gym; check the type chart and the gym walkthrough. Fire is simply easier on Route 1 Bugs.

Should I reset for a better starter before Route 1?

Only if you dislike the species. Jake is Eevee either way. Spend the five Poke Balls and follow Getting Started instead of resetting the lab.
