Project Bronze Forever Volcanion in the Steam Chamber

Epineshroom stew, the Brimber Black Belt, and a one-chance Fire/Water mythical under the rock.

Last updated:

Catch Volcanion

Volcanion is the Fire/Water mythical locked under Brimber City’s giant rock. You do not Strength the boulder. You feed a tired Black Belt a stew called Epineshroom, he punches the rock, and the Steam Chamber opens. The chamber stays blocked until you finish the Port Decca cooking quest, even if you arrived in Brimber for the second gym days earlier. This page follows the official Volcanion video: Frisk plus Compound Eyes, three held items, the stove, the punch, then a one-chance catch with autosave off.

Treat this hunt like Victini and the Regis, not like breeding Eeveelutions. There is one Volcanion. If it faints or the timer runs out on a misclick, that save file does not get another. Pack Dusk Balls because you are underground, and pack Net Balls because Water is its secondary type. Buy both in the Poke Ball Emporium in Anthian Shopping District before you fly to Brimber with the stew.

Frisk, Compound Eyes, and three items

Catch a Shuppet with Frisk in Fortulose Manor on Route 9, the same haunted house used for Rotom. Put Shuppet first in the party so Frisk announces held items on wild Pokemon. Pair it with a Compound Eyes lead or switch so the wild hold rate is not a coin flip. You need three specific items, not random loot:

  • Big Mushroom from Foongus on Route 13, reached from Fluoruma.
  • Chilan Berry from wild holders (Frisk every candidate until the berry appears, then catch and take it).
  • Stardust from wild holders such as Staryu; same Frisk swap, catch, retrieve.

Do not eat the mushroom or the berry. Do not sell the Stardust. The stove recipe is exact. If Frisk says the wild has nothing, run and find another. Compound Eyes is there so you are not hunting dry Foongus for an hour. This grind is longer than the Steam Chamber itself. Bring Repels for the walks between patches, and keep a box slot free so you can catch the holder instead of knocking it out and losing the item.

Route 13 is past several gyms. If you are still stuck on Chad or Sebastian, finish those badges and the getting started checklist first. Volcanion is a late-mid hunt, not a Route 4 detour. Team Eclipse story beats around Mt. Igneus sit next to Brimber; clearing Team Eclipse in that volcano is a separate gym-city flag and does not replace the stew.

Port Decca stove and Epineshroom

With all three items in the bag, go to Port Decca. The official video walks into the greenhouse beside the Pokemon Centre and talks to the lady at the stove. She cooks the Big Mushroom, Chilan Berry, and Stardust into Epineshroom. That is the quest the giant rock is waiting on. If the lady has no dialogue, you are missing an ingredient or you are in the wrong building. Do not try to cook in Brimber.

Epineshroom is a quest item, not a battle berry. Leave it in the bag and fly to Brimber City. The Black Belt stands by the giant rock near the Route 6 side of town, punching the boulder because he believes he can shatter it. Talk to him, hand over the stew, and watch him one-shot the rock. A staircase appears underneath. That is the Steam Chamber. If he still punches without eating, you have not finished the Port Decca cook.

Redeem codes before this trip if the first gym is done. The hunt does not need promo items, but a stocked ball bag from codes plus the Emporium purchase is the difference between a catch and a reset. Confirm live codes on Discord the same day you buy Dusk and Net Balls.

Steam Chamber path around the lava

Enter, climb down the stairs, and you are in a cracked volcanic basement: steam vents, red crystals, pillars, and a lava chasm with a broken bridge. Volcanion is visible across the gap. Do not jump the lava. Find the small opening to the left of the bridge and follow the lower path that wraps around the chasm. Water shows along that detour. On the far side, go through the door and click Volcanion. It roars, and the battle starts.

Save on the far side, then turn autosave off, then click. If you save in Brimber before the rock, a failed catch still lets you re-enter, but a mid-battle autosave can lock the faint. One chance means one click. The official video is the camera path if the left opening is hard to see on mobile.

Wild Pokemon live in the chamber, including rare Fire bugs. They are not the target. Walk past them or Repel. You are here for the mythical, not a second team of larvae.

Balls, typing, and the catch

Volcanion is Fire/Water. That pairing resists Fire, Ice, Steel, and Bug, and it is weak to Ground, Rock, and Electric. Read the type chart before you lead a Grass sweeper into Steam Eruption. False Swipe or a similar chip move belongs on the lead. Status that does not knock it out is allowed; a KO is a dead hunt.

Dusk Balls get the cave modifier. Net Balls get the Water modifier. Use both stacks instead of spamming Great Balls. Ultra Balls are a backup, not the plan. If it uses Flare Blitz, it also hurts itself; do not panic and throw a weak ball on the same turn you could wait for yellow HP. The tier list will argue about Volcanion as a special wall later. Catching it is the only ranking that matters on this save.

This is not a roaming bird. You do not need the legendary birds timer rules. You also do not need a Z-Crystal from the Z-Crystals hunt to start the fight. Click, stall, throw. If the catch succeeds, turn autosave back on after you leave the chamber and save in Brimber Centre.

After the punch

Volcanion does not replace a Water starter against Sebastian; you already beat that gym to live in Brimber. It does give a Fire/Water special attacker for later badges, Colosseum, and the Eclipse story. Keep it off the lead against Ground and Rock. Pair it with an Electric or Grass answer from your Eeveelutions box if you bred Vaporeon and Leafeon on the same account.

The Black Belt does not respawn a second rock. There is no second stew. If you somehow dump Epineshroom, you farm the three items again and return to the Port Decca stove, but you still only get one Volcanion encounter. Watch event updates for shiny or rerun rumors instead of assuming a weekly respawn. This revival is a full game with one Steam Chamber, not a raid rotator.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers trainers actually search for.

Why can I not break the giant rock in Brimber City?

HM Strength is not the answer. Finish the Port Decca stove quest, cook Epineshroom from Big Mushroom, Chilan Berry, and Stardust, then feed the Black Belt beside the rock.

Where do I get Frisk for the item hunt?

Catch Shuppet with Frisk in Fortulose Manor on Route 9. Put it first so Frisk announces wild held items, and bring a Compound Eyes Pokemon to raise hold rates.

Which balls should I throw at Volcanion?

Dusk Balls in the underground chamber and Net Balls for the Water typing. Buy them in Anthian Shopping District, save on the far side of the lava, and turn autosave off.

Is Volcanion Fire or Water?

Both. Fire/Water is why Net Balls work and why Ground, Rock, and Electric hits are dangerous. Check the type chart before you pick a False Swipe lead.

Can I catch Volcanion more than once?

No. It is a one-chance set encounter. If the battle ends without a catch, that file is done. Leave without saving only if autosave was already off.
